Grief Hotlines

Grief hotlines can provide immediate support and assistance for those grieving the loss of a loved one. Whether you're grieving the loss of a child, parent, or family member, there are a variety of helplines and hotlines ready and willing to come alongside you during your grief and loss. Here are a few commonly used ones.

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – 988 – This is the new suicide and crisis hotline number. It provides 24/7, free, and confidential support for people in distress, as well as suicide prevention and crisis resources. In addition, they offer resources for those walking through loss to death by suicide and professionals who can help within the United States.
  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Helpline – 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) This helpline provides information, referrals, and support to individuals living with mental illness, as well as support and resources for their loved ones.
  • The American Association of Suicidology – This organization provides information and resources on suicide prevention, including a directory of crisis centers across the United States.
  • The Compassionate Friends 1-877-969-0010 - This organization provides support and resources for families who have experienced the death of a child. From online support groups, books, crisis support, The Compassionate Friends can help you navigate the loss and grief that comes the death of a child.
  • Grief Recovery Hotline 1-800-445-4808 - This helpline provides support and resources for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
  • Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Helpline 1-800-247-4370 If you're walking through the loss of an child to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), they can help provide support and resources.
  • Parents of Murdered Children 1-513-721-5683 This helpline can help those who are grieving the loss of children and loved ones who died by violence.  
  • The Good Grief Center – 1-908-522-1999 – This center provides emotional support and resources to help you grief well.
  • The Hospice Foundation of America – 1-800-854-3402 – This organization provides support and resources for those who are facing a life-limiting illness or have lost a loved one entering hospice.
  • The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization – 1-800-658-8898 - This organization provides support and resources for those who are looking for palliative and hospice care for their loved one.

Hotlines are here to help you, but it's always good to contact a professional counselor or therapist if you need more support. Contact a trusted friend, family member, or religious leader if you need someone to talk to. Don't suffer alone.
